Looking for some Valentine’s Day classroom activities? I have a few ideas for you for this upcoming classroom holiday. I always feel like this one sneaks up on me! Between Groundhogs day, Presidents’ week, Catholic Schools’ Week, the 100th day of school, and Winter Sports Spirit Week, I never feel quite prepared to offer Valentine’s day classroom activities.
The activities I am sharing today are quick to prep, usually with items already found in your classroom. Let me know if you use any Valentine’s day PreK activities, and tag me on social media. We will celebrate your ideas together.
Valentine’s Day Classroom Sensory Activities
This sensory tub is full of birdseed and some random pink, red and white loose parts. Quite literally I grabbed the color-coded tops to my paint cups. My students love these because they mimic funnels. And who doesn’t love the sound of seeds flowing through a funnel? Some small heart containers and small plastic scoops from the Dollar Tree. Please make sure you are using nut-free birdseed (if you have allergies).
This sensory and fine motor activity was accomplished using some old flowers I received before the holiday. I try to add pink, red and white items instead of spending a ton of money on holiday-themed items. The idea was for the children to pull apart the flowers and then they used them to create their own Valentine’s day cards for their families.
Valentine’s Day Writing Activities
This Valentine’s Day classroom writing activity is accomplished with a branch of a tree right outside our classroom door. It comes from a decorative plum tree, but you could use cherry blossoms, apricot blossoms, really any pink flower in your area. I set the branches out in a decorative jar, added some chalk, and a chalkboard. Some of my students are able to write words. In that case, I would include some cards with Valentine-themed words. Otherwise just getting your students to practice writing is a win-win situation.
I have also found that some children struggle with the drag between the chalk and the board, while others need that dragging feeling to be successful. The additional layer of a tactile experience helps grow confident writers.
Classroom Activities for Valentine’s Day Math
My math center was slightly more holiday-themed. I used all of our loose parts, in the form of Valentine’s day table scatter that I usually use in the block center. I added those loose parts to the Valentine Math Activity puzzles and the February pages from the Roll and Count mats to create some Valentine’s Day classroom activities specifically for math.
